This page explains the basic capture flow in Print Screen Deluxe.

Use it when you want to take a normal still image, start a video recording, understand the selection overlay, or learn the fastest capture tips.

Before You Start

  1. Open Print Screen Deluxe.
  2. Click What am I capturing?.
  3. Pick the capture type you want.
  4. Turn on Enable Get Text if you want the app to pull text from the capture.
  5. Turn on Capture video only if you want a video instead of a still image.
  6. Click OK.

If you need a delay before capture starts, open Options, go to Capture, turn on Use Time Delay, and set the number of seconds.

Start A Still Image Capture

  1. Pick a capture type.
  2. Press your capture hotkey.
  3. Follow the on-screen selection step if the capture type needs one.
  4. Wait for the image to open in a new tab, or for your save, copy, or print action to finish.

If Enable Get Text is on, the app also creates a text tab after the image capture finishes.

Start And Stop A Video Recording

  1. Click What am I capturing?.
  2. Turn on Capture video.
  3. Pick AVI or MP4.
  4. Turn on Capture audio while recording only if you are using MP4.
  5. Press the capture hotkey to start recording.
  6. Press the same hotkey again to stop recording.

When the recording stops, the video opens in a new tab.

What The Selection Overlay Means

Some capture types show a dark overlay with a clear cutout.

  • It helps you see what will be captured.
  • It is used for region, shape, polygon, freehand, window, and menu selection.
  • You can change how dark it looks in Options > Capture > Selection overlay darkness (%).

The default darkness is 35%.

Helpful Capture Tips

  • Turn on Include mouse cursor when the pointer matters.
  • Turn on Use Time Delay when you need time to open a menu or switch windows.
  • Turn on Play sounds when I capture if you want an audio cue.
  • Turn on Automatically pop up main window when you capture if you want the app to come forward after each capture.

Import From A Scanner Or Camera

Acquire... is not a normal screen capture type. Use it from the File tab when you want to bring in an image from a scanner or camera.

Next Step

Read Capture Types Reference if you want help choosing the right capture type.

Read Get Text (OCR) if you want words from the capture. Read Video Recording if you want motion instead of a still image.

Then use Edit Images And Add Markup, Save, Copy, And Print, or Scheduled Capture And Workflow for the next step.
