Capture And Startup Settings

Review capture setup, hotkeys, post-capture actions, startup behavior, and other capture-side settings.

This page explains the settings that change how capture starts, how the hotkey works, where the result goes, and how the main app starts.

Use it when you want to set up the app before you begin taking screenshots or recordings.

What Am I Capturing?

Open this section from the left side of the main window.

Setting What it does Good to know
Capture Picks the kind of capture you want to make. The default is FullScreen.
Enable Get Text Turns OCR on for the capture flow. The app creates a text tab after the image capture.
Capture video Switches from still-image capture to video recording. Press the hotkey once to start and again to stop.
Video format Picks AVI or MP4 for video. Audio recording works only with MP4.
Capture audio while recording Adds audio to a video recording. Available only when Capture video is on and the format is MP4.
Enable logging Turns on the main app log. Use this when you need help finding a problem.

Logging Notes

  • Daily log files are written to %TEMP%\PrintScreenDeluxe\psd-YYYY-MM-DD.log.
  • If startup fails, the crash log is written to %TEMP%\PrintScreenDeluxe\startup-crash.txt.
  • When logging is off, the app does not keep writing to the normal log file.

How Do I Capture It?

Open this section from the left side of the main window.

Setting What it does Good to know
Key Picks the main capture key. The default is PrintScreen.
Ctrl Adds Ctrl to the hotkey. Optional.
Alt Adds Alt to the hotkey. Optional.
Shift Adds Shift to the hotkey. Optional.
Win Adds the Windows key to the hotkey. Optional.

Pick a hotkey that does not clash with another tool you use often.

Where Will It Go?

Open this section from the left side of the main window.

Setting What it does Good to know
Copy to clipboard Copies the captured result to the clipboard. Good for pasting into email, chat, and documents.
Auto-save Saves the result to a file after capture. Off by default.
Auto-print Sends the result to a printer after capture. Off by default.
Directory Picks the auto-save folder. The default folder is %Pictures%\PrintScreenDeluxe.
Format Picks the file format for auto-save. Choices are PNG, JPG, BMP, GIF, and TIFF.
Auto-name files Saves files with automatic names like PS0000.png. This is the default auto-save naming mode.
Name each file Opens a save prompt for every auto-saved capture. Use this when you want to choose a new file name each time.
Counter Sets the next number used in auto-name mode. The Reset button sets it back to 0.
Printer Picks the printer used for auto-print. Used only when Auto-print is on.

Options Dialog: General Tab

Open Options from the left side of the main window.

Setting What it does Good to know
Automatically start minimized when user logs on Starts the app minimized when it launches at sign-in. Off by default.
Verify startup setting Checks the startup registration setting. Use this if startup behavior does not match what you expect.
Automatically pop up main window when you capture Brings the main window to the front after capture. Off by default.
Use software rendering compatibility mode Uses a safer drawing path for some PCs. On by default. Takes effect after restart.

Options Dialog: Capture Tab

Setting What it does Good to know
Include mouse cursor Includes the pointer in supported screen captures. Off by default.
Show Quick Capture Button Shows the floating Quick Capture button. On by default.
Play sounds when I capture Plays a sound when capture starts from the hotkey flow. On by default.
Selection overlay darkness (%) Controls how dark the screen overlay looks during selection. Default is 35. Range is 0 to 90.
Use Time Delay Waits before starting the capture. Off by default.
Delay seconds Sets the length of the capture delay. Default is 0. Range is 0 to 600.

Good Starting Choices

For Basic Screen Capture

  • Leave Capture on FullScreen.
  • Leave Enable Get Text off.
  • Leave Capture video off.
  • Turn on Show Quick Capture Button if you want a fast mouse-only workflow.

For Documentation Or Support Work

  • Turn on Include mouse cursor.
  • Turn on Automatically pop up main window when you capture.
  • Turn on Copy to clipboard.
  • Turn on Enable logging when you need a record of what happened.

For Long Pages

  • Set Capture to AutoScroll.
  • Keep Selection overlay darkness (%) high enough to see the target window clearly.
  • Use Use Time Delay if you need time to prepare the page first.
